Start with the daily energy budget

For off-grid camping, estimate the energy used each day before choosing a station. For each load, multiply its average watts by hours of use, then add the watt-hours. Separate overnight medical or communication loads from convenience devices and check the exact device manuals.

daily Wh = Σ (average W × hours per day)

Include charging losses, standby draw, temperature limits and a reserve. The wattage calculator helps with simultaneous output; the runtime calculator estimates one load at a time. Neither replaces testing your own equipment.

Fits this load: Bluetti Elite 100 V2. A light 1 kWh unit for a campsite energy budget: 1,024 Wh in 11.5 kg, with up to 1,000 W of solar input to recharge during the day.

What to check at the campsite

  • Battery energy: compare usable Wh, not just the model’s inverter wattage.
  • Solar compatibility: check the station’s input range, connector and maximum current; a panel nameplate does not promise daily harvest.
  • Weather and shade: trees, clouds, short winter days and panel angle can reduce recharge below the ideal calculation.
  • Quiet and site rules: confirm campground rules for battery charging, panels, generator backups and cable placement.
  • Transport: secure the battery during travel and follow the maker’s temperature, storage and charging instructions.

Safe power at a campsite

Use the station only in the environment named in its manual. Keep it dry, ventilated and away from cooking heat, vehicle exhaust and direct weather. Route cables so they cannot be pinched by doors or wheels and do not cross a walkway unprotected. CPSC lists fire, overheating and shock among hazards associated with high-energy batteries and chargers; use an intact, documented system and stop if it swells, smells, leaks or becomes unusually hot.

If you camp in an RV, use the separate RV power guide for inlet, shore-power and 30A/50A questions. An adapter does not alter voltage, output capacity or transfer protection.

FAQ

How much battery do I need for off-grid camping?
Add the watt-hours for the devices and hours you plan to use, then account for losses and reserve. There is no single campsite size that fits every trip.
Will a solar panel refill the station every day?
Not necessarily. Harvest changes with panel alignment, shade, weather, season and the station’s input limits. Plan a second charging option for critical devices.
Can I run any RV through a portable station?
No. Confirm the RV service, station output and approved connection method. Never backfeed a receptacle or use a generic adapter as a substitute for transfer equipment.
